History Of Karims

When the Delhi Durbar was organized in 1911 for King George V’s coronation, one of Aziz’s sons, Haji Karimuddin, returned to Delhi with the ambitious idea of starting a Dhaba with Mughal cuisine to cater to the people who had traveled from all over India to attend the coronation. Haji Karimuddin began the Dhaba by selling only two dishes: Alu gosht (mutton with potatoes) and Daal (lentil curry) with rumali roti. “I want to gain attention and wealth by serving royal cuisine to the common man,” Haji Karimuddin said when he opened the Karim Hotel in Gali Kababian, near Jama Masjid, Delhi, in 1913.
